The CHC is led by our staff, interns and volunteers, and board members consisting of business owners, community historians, educators, and cultural advocates.

Pheej Lauj

Director

Pheej (Pheng Lor) was born and raised in Fresno and spent a decade in the Bay Area and Utah before returning in 2024. He is dedicated to cultural and environmental progress, and passionate about bridging resource gaps to underserved and vulnerable communities. He joins the Cultural Heritage Center from nonprofit and research management roles and currently leads the Center’s work to establish a hub for cultural exchange, education, and advocacy. 

Morgan Doizaki

Board Chair

Morgan is the owner of Central Fish and properties in Chinatown. He is a founder of the 559 Night Market, bringing youth, community, and diverse vendors together to celebrate multicultural excellence. Morgan also serves as a board member for the Chinatown Fresno Foundation.

June Stanfield

Board Secretary

June is the owner of Golden Cuts Barber Shop & Salon and properties in Chinatown, including The Pop Up Place, an innovative business incubator initiative. She has been a long-time West Fresno community advocate and also serves as a board member for the Chinatown Fresno Foundation.

Cami Cipolla

Board Treasurer

Cami serves as the Fresno City and County Historical Society’s Director of Educational Services and Community Engagement. She is a passionate educator and also serves as a board member for the Chinatown Fresno Foundation.

CHC Cultural and Education & Engagement Interns:

Leonela Ulloa Moran

Leonela Ulloa Moran (she/her/hers) is currently in her last year at Fresno State pursuing a major in Kinesiology with a minor in Deaf Studies. She choose to become involved with the Cultural Heritage Center because she enjoys learning about other cultures and interacting with those around her community. In her free time, Leonela likes to read, be creative, and go on walks. 

David Ponce

David Ponce (he/him/his) is currently in his fourth year at Fresno State University. One of his career goals is to become a history educator. David chose to join the Cultural Heritage Center because of his passion for learning about the history of Chinatown. In his spare time, he enjoys walking and watching movies.

Dulce Garcia Moreno

Dulce Garcia Moreno uses she/her/hers pronouns and is currently in her fourth year at UC Merced studying Public Health with a minor in Political Science. Her academic and career goal is to become a lawyer and serve her community. Dulce decided to join CHC because it offered a valuable opportunity to engage more closely with her community. She was especially drawn to its mission of bringing more people back to Chinatown and wanted to help promote the Cultural Heritage Center. In her free time, Dulce enjoys driving and watching movies.

Rue Kausin

Rue Kausin, a third-year City and Regional Planning student at Fresno State, is passionate about how urban development shapes natural and built environments. They joined CHC to research the historical roots of Fresno and Chinatown with a goal to educate the community about the city’s’ rich history and original cultures. In their free time, they enjoy spending time with friends and family and singing.
